Users and activities

Over the centuries St Mary’s has given hope, support and comfort to the community.

With the opening of the Neighbourhood Centre in 1976 and the recent refurbishing of the crypt, its role has expanded provididng space for many activites for people of all ages and backgrounds.

We have over 50 organisations who provide regular activities for the people of Islington.

For babies, children and young adults

Our own two main projects occupying some of St Mary’s spaces are St Mary’s Pre-school which provides stimlating day care for children between the ages of 2 1/2 and 4 years old. Older children enjoy St Mary’s Youth Club which meets after school and runs Holiday Playschemes. There are also classes of music and movement for children, puppets and many other activities.

Keeping fit adults

You will find classes of yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates and martial arts throughout the week.

For senior citizens

Our Monday Fellowship and Community contact meet once a week offering time and space for people to meet.

For counselling, help and support

A wide variety of organisations and charities offer help to people:

  • following a stroke
  • with debt
  • who need advice
  • with mental stress
  • legal advice
  • with problems with alcohol
  • with drug related problems
  • on weight loss
